How to clean your ebicycle?

How to clean your ebicycle?

Summer is the peak season for mountain biking and commuting. During these periods, ebicycles often need more careful cleaning and storage to keep them cleaner and less likely to rust in a dry environment.

Preliminary preparation

ebike clean tools

1. Special bicycle cleaners. Using special bicycle cleaners can better protect the frame structure from corrosion. Because bicycle frames are mainly made of carbon fiber, titanium, aluminum, steel and transparent coatings, protecting the frame from corrosion is the key. Professional cleaning agents can often protect the frame better than ordinary cleaning agents.Famous cleaning agent brands include: Muc Off, STA-BIL and Finish Line.

2. Microfiber Cleaning Cloths. This fabric is soft and will not scratch your electric bike easily. It is also very effective in removing stains and can be reused and washed.

3. Rubbing alcohol. Since external alcohol has the property of removing grease, and the chain, gear brakes and other parts of the ebike often have oil and lubricant residue, you can use external alcohol for deep cleaning to remove the residue on the parts.

4. Chain Lubricant. A well-known brand is Finish Line chain lubrica

nt. After cleaning, you need to reapply the lubricant to make the ebike chain smooth.

5. Professional chain cleaning tools. These professional chain cleaning tools are similar in appearance and quality, and you can buy those with similar appearance online or offline.

Clean Steps

To prevent water/cleaners from entering the ebicycle, please be sure to close the rubber battery port plug. If the port plug is lost or missing, you can plug it with a cloth that is absorbent to prevent water from entering. Do not forcefully rinse the ebicycle with water/cleaners during the cleaning process to avoid causing abnormal noises on the ebike.
This article will explain how to clean an ebike from top to bottom.

Electric bike top

e bike detergent

Tools needed: Special bicycle cleaners, microfiber towel
Steps: Spray the special bicycle cleaner on a microfiber towel, then use the microfiber towel to wipe the throttle handle, brake lever, screen, buttons, raised handlebars, headlights and the front of the frame.

Electric bike body

clean ebike frame

Tools needed: Special bicycle cleaners, microfiber towel
Steps: First, clean the body of the bicycle. We recommend spraying Special bicycle cleaners on the ebike frame and then gently wiping away stains with a microfiber cloth. Secondly, because the door lock part of the bicycle frame is difficult to replace, and this part is prone to rust after long-term oxidation and is difficult to replace, you can clean this part first. Finally, clean the seat post clamp that adjusts the seat height. First clean the debris near the seat post clamp, and then wipe it with the microfiber towel and detergent you just used.
In order to prevent water damage to the parts of the electric bicycle, we recommend turning the bicycle upside down after cleaning. When flipping the bicycle, be careful not to damage the display screen and make sure the display screen is tilted forward.

Electric bike wheels

Front wheel

In order to clean the wheel evenly, you can rotate the wheel while spraying the special cleaner so that all parts of the wheel are sprinkled with the cleaner. Use a microfiber cloth to gently wipe all parts of the ebike wheel. When wiping, be sure to clean all parts of the tire, including the rim, hub and spokes.

Rear wheel

When cleaning the rear wheel, you need to spray the cleaning liquid evenly on the rag. When cleaning, you need to carefully push the rag between the spokes to avoid touching the spokes. Once the spokes are bent or deformed, the ebike will make abnormal noises.

Unlike the cleaning of the front wheel, the rear wheel needs to clean the brakes and rotors. When cleaning the brakes, just wipe them gently with a microfiber cloth. It should be noted that there should not be any debris or debris left on the brake pads, which may cause debris or debris to adhere to the brake pads and shorten the life of the brake pads. When cleaning the rotors, please use external alcohol and rags for cleaning. Because external alcohol is easy to evaporate, it helps prevent abnormal noises when braking.

Electric bike brakes

To clean the gears of an electric bike, you need to use a special bicycle cleaner, spray it directly on a special gear cleaner, gently wipe the flywheel to clean the debris, and then wipe it with a dry microfiber cloth to remove the cleaner. If you think the rear wheel is still not dry enough, you can use your arms to turn the pedals to make the rear wheel rotate, and the centrifugal force will shake off the cleaner.

Electric bike chain

Brush cleaning chain

Clean chain

It's time to clean the chain of the electric bicycle. Spray the special cleaner on a towel and gently wipe the chain with the towel to remove the stains and debris on the chain. You can gently rotate the chain to wipe the entire chain more completely. If you don't have a professional chain cleaning instrument, you can also use an old toothbrush to clean the chain, which can clean it more carefully.

Ebike Lubricant

Oiling the chain

When your chain has been cleaned, the next step is to oil it. In order to control the amount of oil applied, we do not need to press the bottle of lubricant. We just need to turn the bottle upside down and let gravity let the oil drip naturally onto the chain. You can also oil the chain while slowly rotating the pedals so that the oil can better penetrate into the chain.
